The AS4084 Australian Standard outlines the requirements for the design, installation, and safe operation of steel storage racking systems in Australia. This standard is crucial for ensuring the safety, durability, and structural integrity of pallet racking systems used in warehouses and storage facilities.
Compliance
All business installing steel racking in their workplace must ensure that it complies with the standards of safety and testing as defined in the AS4084. The AS4084 is specifically related to Pallet Racking and does not include Drive In Racking, Cantilever Racking, Mobile Racking, or non-steel based racking systems.
Installation
The installation of racking systems must be carried out by qualified personnel to ensure compliance with AS4084. This includes leveling the racks correctly and ensuring all components are securely fastened. The standard also provides guidelines for the safe use and maintenance of racking systems, including the proper handling of materials and pallets, and ongoing inspections.
Audit
- Under the compliance of AS4084, all steel racking structures must be audited for safety every twelve months.
Seismic Design
- For warehouses in seismic regions, AS4084 includes specific provisions for designing racking systems that can withstand seismic activity, ensuring safety during earthquakes.
